The chaparral biome has very hot and dry summers that reach an average temperature of 40 C˙ and last up to 5 months. The summers in the chaparral biome are unique as the temperature can vary drastically from day to night.
The weather can go from 40 C˚ during the day, to 10 C˚ at night, due to heat being trapped in the ground during the day, heating the air, and then being released at night, dropping the temperature. The dry and hot climate, mixing with the dry grasslands, means the chaparral biome is prone to bush fires and drought approximately every 30 years. |
The winter months are typically mild and moist, but not very rainy with an average temperature of 18 C˚ and an average of 25-45 cm annual rainfall. The winters however are not very consistent, with some reaching temperatures of -1 C˚. This change of temperature gives plants and animals a chance to recover after the harsh weather endured during the summer.
During the winter, the chaparral biome produces little snow, however it is short lived as it tends to melts fairly quickly. |
