importance Even though the chaparral biome is the smallest in the world, it does carry a significant importance regarding the global community. The chaparral biome is the only biome that can house certain plants and species, and the endangered pronghorn goat is a prime example of this. the chaparral biome also harbours 20% of the planets plant species.
The chaparral biome also provides protection from erosion and allows underground water supplies to replenish. The plants provide protection from erosion due to their roots retaining the water the would erode the rock. As can be seen in Figure 1, the hill has been eroded from lack of plants which have been destroyed. |
